Calcium

The calcium blood test measures the level of calcium circulating in your body. Calcium is essential not only for strong bones and teeth but also for healthy nerve signalling, muscle function and a steady heartbeat.

Levels that are too high or too low may indicate issues with the parathyroid glands, kidneys, vitamin D or bone health. As calcium is tightly controlled by the body, an abnormal result is usually followed by further tests to find the underlying cause.
