Laboratory Tests
Free T4
Free T4 measures the active, unbound form of thyroxine, a key hormone made by the thyroid gland. This blood test reflects the amount of hormone readily available to the body.
Free T4 is used to assess how well the thyroid is working and helps distinguish between an underactive and an overactive gland. It is most informative when read together with TSH, so your doctor can build a clear picture of your thyroid function.
This explanation is for general information and is not medical advice. Your results are always interpreted by a doctor.
