Laboratory Tests
Iron
The iron blood test measures the amount of iron currently circulating in your blood. Iron is essential for making haemoglobin, the part of red blood cells that carries oxygen around the body.
Iron levels can fluctuate through the day and with diet, so a single reading is best understood alongside related tests such as ferritin and iron binding capacity. Together these help reveal whether you have too little or too much iron and guide any next steps.
This explanation is for general information and is not medical advice. Your results are always interpreted by a doctor.
