ALP

ALP, or alkaline phosphatase, is an enzyme found mainly in the liver, bile ducts and bones, and this blood test measures its level. It is a routine part of liver function panels in a comprehensive check-up.

A higher than normal ALP may indicate a problem with the liver or bile ducts, or sometimes a bone condition. Because the enzyme comes from more than one source, an abnormal result usually prompts further tests to pinpoint where the change is coming from.
