Laboratory Tests
Amylase
Amylase is an enzyme that helps the body break down carbohydrates, produced mainly by the pancreas and salivary glands. This blood test measures the amount circulating in your blood.
A raised amylase level can help detect inflammation or other disorders of the pancreas, and it may also rise with certain other conditions. Because several factors can affect it, the result is usually considered alongside lipase and your symptoms before any conclusion is drawn.
This explanation is for general information and is not medical advice. Your results are always interpreted by a doctor.
