Fasting Insulin

Fasting Insulin measures the amount of the hormone insulin in your blood after a period without food. Insulin helps move sugar from the blood into the cells, so its level reflects how hard the body is working to keep blood sugar steady.

A raised fasting insulin may indicate insulin resistance, an early sign of metabolic strain that can precede problems with blood sugar. The result is often considered together with fasting glucose to assess your metabolic health.
