Laboratory Tests

Ferritin

Ferritin is a protein that stores iron in the body, and this blood test reflects how much iron you have in reserve. It is one of the most useful tests for understanding your iron status.

A low ferritin level may indicate iron deficiency, a common cause of tiredness and anaemia, while a high level can point to iron overload or inflammation. Because ferritin can rise with inflammation, the result is often read alongside other iron tests.

This explanation is for general information and is not medical advice. Your results are always interpreted by a doctor.
