Sedimentation (ESR)
Sedimentation rate, or ESR, is a simple blood test that measures how quickly red blood cells settle to the bottom of a tube. A faster rate can reflect the presence of inflammation in the body.
ESR is a general, non-specific marker, meaning it can rise with many different conditions without pointing to a particular cause. It is most useful when combined with other tests and your symptoms, and it can also help monitor known inflammatory conditions over time.
