Laboratory Tests
Total Protein
The Total Protein test measures the combined amount of the main proteins in your blood, chiefly albumin and globulins. These proteins support many functions, from fluid balance to immune defence and transport.
The result reflects aspects of your nutrition, liver and kidney function and immune health. An abnormal total protein may indicate a range of conditions, so it is interpreted together with other tests, including albumin, to understand what lies behind the change.
This explanation is for general information and is not medical advice. Your results are always interpreted by a doctor.
