Laboratory Tests
Homocysteine
Homocysteine is an amino acid found in the blood, and this test measures its level. The body normally keeps it in check with the help of B vitamins such as B12 and folate.
A raised homocysteine level has been linked to increased cardiovascular risk and can sometimes reflect a shortage of certain B vitamins. It is one of several markers used to build a picture of heart health and is interpreted alongside your other results.
This explanation is for general information and is not medical advice. Your results are always interpreted by a doctor.
