Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC)

Iron Binding Capacity, or TIBC, measures how much iron your blood is able to carry, reflecting the level of transport proteins available. It is usually measured together with iron and ferritin.

TIBC helps interpret your iron status and is particularly useful in working out the cause of anaemia. For example, the pattern of iron, ferritin and TIBC together can help distinguish iron deficiency from other causes, giving a clearer overall picture.
