PSA

PSA, or prostate-specific antigen, is a protein produced by the prostate gland and measured in the blood, often reported as total and free PSA. The test is used to help assess prostate health in men.

A raised PSA can have several causes, including non-cancerous enlargement or inflammation as well as prostate cancer, so it cannot confirm a diagnosis on its own. The result is interpreted with your age, examination and other findings to decide whether any further assessment is helpful.
