Uric Acid

The Uric Acid test measures the level of this waste product in your blood. Uric acid forms when the body breaks down certain substances called purines, found in some foods and in normal cell turnover.

A raised uric acid level may relate to gout, a form of joint inflammation, and can also reflect how well the kidneys are removing waste. The result is interpreted alongside your symptoms and other tests, as levels can be influenced by diet and hydration.

This explanation is for general information and is not medical advice. Your results are always interpreted by a doctor.
