Laboratory Tests
Varicella Zoster IgG
Varicella Zoster IgG is a blood test that checks for antibodies against the varicella zoster virus, which causes chickenpox. The presence of these antibodies indicates immunity, usually from a past infection or vaccination.
Knowing your immunity is particularly useful before pregnancy or certain treatments, as chickenpox can be more serious in these situations. A positive Varicella Zoster IgG result is reassuring, while a negative result allows vaccination to be discussed where appropriate.
